Why is my passenger step well cover not working?

The Tiffin cover was electric operated and mine got stuck in the out position. There is a armature, that is attached to the worm gear by a knuckle joint and other end (to the scissor), by a smooth bolt & cotter pin. In my case, I had to replace the armature (it had snapped in half by over extending the well cover). It’s a $29 item.

How does a step work on an RV?

The gear linkage has a metal arm that moves the step in and out. When the motor moves the gear, the gear moves the metal arm either in or out which, in turn, moves the step.

Where is the motor on a Kwikee step?

You can find the manual for your Kwikee step model here. The motor is mounted on top of the gear linkage with three bolts. It drives the gear linkage in forward or reverse when activated by the controller. It will stop turning when it can’t move anymore (i.e. step is fully extended or retracted).

How can you tell if your step motor is working?

First verify that the magnet in the door and door frame switch are aligned. They should line up when the door is closed. Then check if power is getting to the step motor. Disconnect the power cable from the motor. Then use a multi-meter to check for a DC voltage reading of around 12 volts when the door switch is activated.
