Why does it take longer to raise roof on Jayco Penguin?
On getting the Camper repaired, the guy also changed the winch gearing such that it took twice as many turns to get the roof up. This made the task “easier”, as there seemed to be less effort to turn the handle to raise the roof, however I missed the firm feeling that was there before.

The most serious is the leaking door: water leaking between Fiamma awning and roof just above the door, the upper half of the door is misaligned and water gets in at the top of the upper door unless the inside catches are closed, the ‘J’ strip above the door was not installed!

How does a Jayco wind-up raise the roof?
My fathers 1970s Jayco wind-up had the same mechanism as our 1998 Goldstream. Last night I was thinking about using a drill to raise the roof, which is quite heavy really probably requiring at least two to four people to lift. Initially with our Goldstream it would have had to be a very powerful drill to raise the roof.

Penguin is 112kg ball weight, which wouldn’t include full gas bottle, or battery, or any extra luggage, so keep this in mind when packing the van. Jayco camper trailer payload is normally 300kg, so even loaded to its allowable legal limit, it will still be less than the cars max towing capacity, so that is fine.

This was a mistake we made: If you leave the door hanging down at the entrance when you attach the little clips… …then it can get in the way when you lower the roof.
