What to do if your interior light is not working?
If a door switch is working fine, the interior lights will come on when you open the door and then shut off when the door closes. Door jamb switches are often covered by a rubber boot that can be pried off using a flat screwdriver, and they can be unscrewed or unbolted. Test the switch using the multimeter.
Why is my light bulb not coming out?
The light bulbs burnt out. The circuit breaker or GFI got tripped. The socket tab got flattened, and it’s not making contact with the light bulb. Some other common reasons might include: The light switch has stopped working. The Light fixture has stopped working. The wires are not connected properly. The ballast needs replaced.

What should the voltage be on a 12 volt battery?
It should be about 13.6 VDC or so. Unplug the power source and then take a reading at the outgoing leads from the fuses for your circuits. If you don’t have any power there then the converter is bad and needs to be replaced. Get back to me and I can make a recommendation.
What to do if your 12 volt battery is not charging?
With the shore cord plugged in take a VDC reading at the battery to see if it is charging. It should be about 13.6 VDC or so. Unplug the power source and then take a reading at the outgoing leads from the fuses for your circuits. If you don’t have any power there then the converter is bad and needs to be replaced.
Why do my lights not come on when not connected to shore power?
With 12 volts present when the charger is running when on shore power, one would suspect there is a wire routing issue, as you should get 12 volts from both the charger and or the batteries if things are connected properly. I have a feeling that you do not have 110 volts from the inverter output when you are not connected to shore power.
Why are the lights not working in my RV?
If your lights are still not working, it may be that there is no power to the light fixtures. We assume the lights in the hall and bathroom are running off of 12-volt, and that other lights in the RV are working fine. If that is the case, then check for the following possible causes: Faulty on/off switch.
How does a 12 volt battery light up?
If it senses 12 volts, it lights up. Put the alligator clip attached to the wire onto the negative post of your battery, and touch the positive post with the pointy part. The bulb will light. Excellent!

Can a 12 volt problem cause a refrigerator to fail?
A 12-volt problem can cause failure of other appliances and systems if they have 12-volt power to their controls. The refrigerator and air conditioner, even running in propane-fueled mode or on AC power, require DC voltage for their logic circuits, and so may fail to operate when there is a DC system problem.
Why are the lights not working on my coach?
Sounds like a possible transfer switch or fuse issue. With the 12 volt lights working when on shore power means the charger is working. Look for a large fuse between the batteries and the charger 12 volt output feed to the positive coach battery terminal (s). With a meter you should read a voltage at the positive terminals.
Why do my 12 volt lights keep flickering?
The power converter is also the only thing that can make your 12-volt lights flicker, provided your AC power is good. That is to say, as long as you have good power at your receptacles and at your microwave, your power converter is the only possible villain.
Can a power converter make a 12 volt light flicker?
Any time a power converter is plugged in and working, you will always “see” more than 13 volts. The power converter is also the only thing that can make your 12-volt lights flicker, provided your AC power is good.
Why was there no AC in my RV?
After a few minutes of being plugged in, the Smith’s were sitting without AC, hot water, and ice cold beer because the breaker tripped. Perhaps it was the main breaker in the RV, or perhaps the breaker at the electrical pedestal. They only had 3,600 watts available to use, at most!

Can a furnace run on 12 volt power?
A running furnace blower can drain your batteries overnight and a refrigerator running on 12 volt power will drain your batteries within a few hours. With rare exceptions, battery power will not run AC power appliances including microwaves and air conditioners or anything that requires a residential style AC outlet (shore power).
Can a 120 volt inverter be used on a 12 volt battery?
Adding an inverter to the mix will convert the 12-volt battery’s direct current to a 120-volt alternating current so you can power appliances that need 120 volts and use your vehicles electrical outlets.
Is it possible to troubleshoot a 12 volt electric?
Troubleshooting 12 volt electric is a mystery to most everyone afloat… A friend of mine recently purchased a vessel to sail around the world, went down below, flipped a switch on the panel marked running lights —and nothing happened. He was dumbfounded.
Can a 12v system charge a 24v system?
Otherwise you can use the 24 Volt system to charge a 12 Volt system, but that requires a separate 12 Volt battery and a charger or MPPT type charge controller. On the whole I recommend against 12 VDC appliances unless they are absolutely necessary.
How to run 12V appliances with 24V system?
What are the best ways to run 12v appliances, lights, water pump, etc from a 24v solar system? Either tap off your lower battery and then use a bank balancer to make sure you don’t unbalance the system, or use a DC/DC converter to drop 24V to 12V. They are readily available from suppliers like Meanwell, Vicor, PowerOne etc.
Can a 12 volt power converter run without a battery?
Lastly, check the batteries a properly working converter should run the entire 12 volt system even without a battery (though it’s not recommended due to the tendency of converters to let transient AC voltage through, the battery acts like a “filter”).
Do you need to know how to troubleshoot electrical problems?
A refrigerator, working appliances, lights, and other machinery run on electricity and when electrical problems arise you need to know how to troubleshoot them. Don’t worry!

What to do if your incandescent light is not working?
For incandescent bulbs, look for breaks in the wire filament (the wires inside the glass part). Look to see if the light fits properly in the socket. Check the socket to see if it is giving power. If it isn’t it may need replacing.
What makes a 12 volt light bulb work?
If you have power to the socket, you’ll get a reading of 12 volts or more; if you don’t, it’s time to move down the circuit toward the battery. There may be different components between the battery and the light bulb itself, including items like switches, fuses, buss bars, and circuit breaker panels.
What to do if some of your RV 12V lights stop working?
Dimmers are going on the mason jar lights in the bedroom as well, so we took them down to try in the living room. The main objective here was to see if the problem was with our light fixture or with our RV 12V lights. Soon we realized it was a bigger problem than our light fixture.

How many Watts Does a 120 volt RV have?
If you have 30 amps of main service in your RV and 120-volts running into it, you will multiply those two numbers to get the number of watts. So, 120 times 30 equals 3600 watts. Now what? Say you had your RV plugged in at home with several electrical appliances turned on.
How many volts do campgrounds use for AC?
Campgrounds supply two different wires for AC current. They split a 240-volt supply into two lines of approximately 115 volts. Typically, the output of your 12-volt converter runs through two 30-amp fuses that supply the 12-volt fuse panel. From there it feeds into all of the slides, switches, lights, etc.
What does a 12 volt DC panel do?
The 12-volt DC operation is protected by automotive style fuses and provide power for the roof vents, lights, water pump, and appliance operating on the LP mode. Fuses are not like breakers, meaning once they blow they have to be replaced. There is no resetting fuses on an RV distribution panel.

Is it safe to use a 12V led system?
One caveat is that 12V LED systems do not have any significantly lower optical or fire safety risk. Optical safety is dependent on the intensity and wavelength of light emitted by the LED – something that is independent of the LED system voltage.

How to troubleshoot a 12 volt water pump?
If the test light only illuminates on one side of the fuse replace the fuse with the proper amperage rated fuse and try the water pump again. If there was 12-volt DC power at both sides of the fuse check for 12-volts at the water pump switch. There should be 12-volts going to the switch, but not out of the switch until it is turned on.
