Why are my side steps not going back up?
There is some kind of sensor ( like in a garage door ) that if the board feels resistance it will stop the direction its going. As the motors got weak sometimes they would come down and not go back up, and vise versa. I have the extended GMPP warr. and they replaced both motors at no charge.
Is it possible to retract a side step on a Chevy Tahoe?
But yeah, when they don’t go down and u shut the door, you’ll be driving for 2-3 minutes and all you hear is the motor trying to retract the board even though they are up. Very annoying! Bumping an oooolllld thread.
Why is my passenger side slide not retracting?
My trip to Baton Rouge for LSU football this past weekend went to heck when my passenger side slide would not retract (we stayed Thursday night in Lake Charles, LA to visit my son’s family). After calling a couple of Lake Charles RV repair shops, the initial thought was the slide motor had quit working.

What to do if your step system is not working?
If you have a manual step system then the repair might be simple. Start by lubricating all the moving parts, and visually inspect all the parts. Look for obstructions and bent or broken parts. If there is an obstruction then remove it. If there is a bent part, straighten it or replace it. A broken part may be difficult to replace.
Where is the override switch on an automatic step?
The magnetic switch is located in the lower portion of the door frame and is triggered when a magnet in the door passes in front of it. If the magnet in the door is not perfectly aligned with the switch in the door frame when the door is closed the step won’t activate. Switch #2 (override switch).
